# Put a question to the witness

`POST /cross-examinations/{id}/turns`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.suprememind.ai/v1`
- URL: `https://api.suprememind.ai/v1/cross-examinations/{id}/turns`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Requires the `cross_exam` scope. The witness answers from the transcript held
on the server and the matter's facts. JSON only: a request asking for
`text/event-stream` is answered with JSON. Not idempotent: the same question
sent twice is two turns. A witness that cannot answer (502) does not use up a
question.

## Other responses

- `400`: The request was malformed.
- `401`: Missing, malformed, unknown or revoked key.
- `403`: The key lacks the scope, the address is not on its allowlist, or API access is off for the account.
- `404`: Nothing with that id is visible to this key.
- `409`: The session has ended, holds its 25 questions, has been superseded, or another question is being answered.
- `429`: Too many requests, or too many jobs in flight.
- `502`: The witness could not answer; the question was not counted.
