# Start a transaction.

`POST /v1/transactions`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.stratumapis.com`
- URL: `https://api.stratumapis.com/v1/transactions`
- Auth: API key in header `X-Stratum-Key`

`type` is `letting`, `sale`, `finance`, `screening` or `export` (an export shipment: its parties screened on the export and sanctions lists). Optional: `jurisdiction` (`england`, `scotland`, `wales`, `ni`), `rentPence` for a letting, and a `preset`: `"kyb"` with `finance` opens with a company and the KYB package chosen; `"id"` (sale, letting or finance) ticks the ID check done by link; `"rtr"` (letting) ticks the Right to Rent with each tenant's ID and Right to Rent together by link. The `id` and `rtr` presets also tick the checks the law requires and recommends for the job; see them priced with `/quote`. Free.

## Other responses

- `400`: Something in the request is wrong; `message` says what.
- `401`: 401: no key, or an invalid or revoked one. 403 `account_key_required`: a key for one API, not your account key.
