# Retrieve a tax code

`GET /v1/tax_codes/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.stripe.com`
- URL: `https://api.stripe.com/v1/tax_codes/{id}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP basic
  - HTTP bearer

Retrieves the details of an existing tax code. Supply the unique tax code ID and Stripe will return the corresponding tax code information.

- `id` string, required

- `expand` string[]

## Response `200`

Successful response.

- TaxCode: [Tax codes](https://stripe.com/docs/tax/tax-categories) classify goods and services for tax purposes.
  - `description` string, required: A detailed description of which types of products the tax code represents.
  - `id` string, required: Unique identifier for the object.
  - `name` string, required: A short name for the tax code.
  - `object` 'tax_code', required: String representing the object's type. Objects of the same type share the same value.
  - `requirements` TaxCodeRequirements
    - `performance_location` 'optional' | 'required', required: Describes whether a performance location is required for a successful tax calculation with a tax code.
