# Create an account with email + password (pending verification)

`POST /v1/auth/register`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.stackdata.io`
- URL: `https://api.stackdata.io/v1/auth/register`
- Auth: one of:
  - none
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Mints a free-tier account and emails a 6-digit activation code. No session is started — `POST /v1/auth/verify-code` activates the account and signs it in. Where no mailer is configured the code is returned as `verify_code_dev`. When Turnstile is enabled (`/v1/auth/providers` reports `captcha` true) a `captcha_token` is required.

## Response `200`

Account created; verification pending.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid email
- `409`: An account with this email already exists.
- `429`: Too many signups from this network.
