# Import a sprite

`POST /api/sprites/import`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.sprite-ai.art`
- URL: `https://www.sprite-ai.art/api/sprites/import`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Add a sprite you already have and get back an id you can animate or use as a style reference. Free: no tokens, no AI. A single PNG, JPEG or WebP sprite, 16 to 256 px per side, not a sprite sheet.

  - `asset_type` 'character' | 'creature' | 'prop' | 'weapon' | 'vehicle' | 'tile' | 'background' | 'ui' | 'effect' | 'item'
  - `palette_id` string, uuid

## Response `201`

The imported sprite id.

## Other responses

- `400`: The request failed validation.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `403`: The API key is revoked or expired.
- `404`: Not found, or not yours.
- `429`: Rate limited. Retry after the Retry-After header.
