# List genres

`GET /v1/genres`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.sonovault.now`
- URL: `https://api.sonovault.now/v1/genres`
- Auth: API key in header `x-api-key`

Lists every canonical genre and subgenre Sonovault recognises. Use this to find the numeric `genreId` for a genre suggestion. The suggestion endpoint validates against this exact list, so it never goes out of date.

- object
  - `genres` Genre[], required: Every canonical genre and subgenre, alphabetical within type.
    - `id` integer, required: Genre ID, stable across snapshots.
    - `name` string, required: Genre name.
    - `type` 'main' | 'subgenre', required: Whether this is a top-level genre or a subgenre.
    - `parent` string, nullable, required: Name of the parent genre. `null` for a top-level genre.
