# Remove a member.

`DELETE /v1/org/members/{id}`

Removes the person from the organization and revokes their API keys in the same step. Requires a user login, not an API key, and the `members:write` scope (owner or admin).

## Path parameters

- `id` string, required

## Response `200`

Removed; the body names the organization's API keys revoked with them and the machines they created that are left running.

- RemoveMemberResult: What removing somebody from an organization revokes and what it leaves running.
  - `revokedKeyIds` string[], required: The ids of the organization's API keys that were revoked.
  - `runningMachines` OrgMachineSummary[], required: The organization's machines this person created that are left running.
    - `id` string, required
    - `name` string, nullable
    - `state` string, required

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid API key
- `403`: Taking somebody else off is an owner or admin action, or the caller is an API key
- `404`: That person is not on this organization
- `409`: The removal would leave the organization with no owner; the message names the way out
- `422`: An individual account, not an organization
- `429`: Rate limited; retry after the Retry-After header
- `500`: Internal error
