# Get a layout

`GET /matters/{matterId}/layouts/{itemId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.smokeball.com`
- URL: `https://api.smokeball.com/matters/{matterId}/layouts/{itemId}`
- Auth: API key in header `x-api-key` and API key in header `Authorization`

Retrieves a layout item on a specified matter.

## Path parameters

- `matterId` string, uuid, required
- `itemId` string, uuid, required

## Response `200`

When request is successful. Returns a 'LayoutMatterItem' object.

  - `parentIndex` integer, nullable: Zero-based index of the parent layout matter item, if one exists.

  - `values` LayoutValue[], nullable: List of layout values.

## Other responses

- `404`: When a layout item with the specified ID does not exist on the matter.
