# Activate a user

`PUT /users/{id}/activation`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.smartrecruiters.com/user-api/v201804`
- URL: `https://api.smartrecruiters.com/user-api/v201804/users/{id}/activation`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `x-smarttoken`
  - OAuth 2
    - Authorization code: `https://www.smartrecruiters.com/identity/oauth/allow`
    - Token URL: `https://api.smartrecruiters.com/identity/oauth/token` scopes: `users_manage`

Activate a user with given id. Users created via an API are not active.
This method allows activating a user so he/she can sign in straight away.

## Response `204`

User successfully activated

## Other responses

- `400`: with codes * **PROPERTY_INVALID** when user's property is invalid, e.g. email
- `403`: with code * **PERMISSION_DENIED** Not permitted to manage users
- `404`: User not found
- `409`: When activating a previously deactivated user, whilst there is an active user with the same email. There could not be more than one activated user with the same email in the same time.
