# Get latest RAOB radiosonde soundings as GeoJSON.

`GET /v1/soundings`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.smarterweather.com`
- URL: `https://api.smarterweather.com/v1/soundings`

Returns a GeoJSON FeatureCollection of RAOB (radiosonde) vertical
soundings ingested from MADIS. By default returns the latest sounding
per station within the last 24 hours. `hours` switches to every
sounding in the last `hours` hours (1-24), newest first. `station`
limits the result to every sounding from that station in the window
(the last 24 hours unless `hours` is set).

Heavy `profile` and `wind_profile` arrays are stripped from bulk
responses to keep payloads small for map overlays. Use
`/v1/soundings/nearest` to fetch the full vertical profile for a
specific site.

Each feature retains `station_id`, `observed_at`, `elevation_m`,
`level_count`, `wind_level_count`, and the `derived` indices object
(see `/v1/soundings/nearest` for field descriptions), plus
`valid_time`, the sounding's valid time.

## Response `200`

GeoJSON FeatureCollection of RAOB soundings (profile stripped).

## Other responses

- `502`: Bad gateway. The service received an invalid response from an upstream data source. Transient; clients should retry with backoff.
- `503`: Service unavailable. An upstream dependency is unavailable or shedding load (type `service-unavailable`). Transient; retry with backoff and honor any `Retry-After` header.
- `504`: Gateway timeout. An upstream data source did not respond within the service's budget.
