# Update invoice settings

`PATCH /v2/invoices/settings`

## Request

Update the sender details, defaults and branding. Only the fields you send change, and `null` clears a field. See [Invoice settings](/docs/v2/invoices/creating-and-sending#invoice-settings).

## Request body

- InvoiceSettingsUpdate: Partial update. An omitted field is left unchanged; `null` clears a clearable field. `address` and `branding` are replaced as a whole.
  - `companyName` string
  - `email` string, email
  - `address` Address
    - `line1` string, required
    - `line2` string
    - `city` string, required
    - `state` string
    - `postalCode` string
    - `countryCode` string: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
  - `defaultMemo` string, nullable
  - `defaultPaymentTermsDays` integer, nullable
  - `logoDocumentId` string, nullable: A document uploaded with purpose `invoice_logo`, with the `st_` prefix. `null` removes the logo.
  - `branding` object, nullable
    - `backgroundColor` string
    - `titleColor` string

## Response `200`

The updated invoice settings.

- InvoiceSettings: What every invoice from the legal entity shows: who it's from, the defaults new invoices start with, and the logo and colors on the PDF and payment page.
  - `companyName` string, required: Who invoices are from.
  - `email` string, required: The reply-to address on invoice emails.
  - `address` Address, required
    - `line1` string, required
    - `line2` string
    - `city` string, required
    - `state` string
    - `postalCode` string
    - `countryCode` string: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
  - `defaultMemo` string: The memo the dashboard fills in on new invoices.
  - `defaultPaymentTermsDays` integer: How many days after issue the dashboard makes new invoices due.
  - `logoDocumentId` string: The logo, a [document](/api-reference/documents/retrieve) uploaded with purpose `invoice_logo`.
  - `branding` object
    - `backgroundColor` string: Six-digit hex color.
    - `titleColor` string: Six-digit hex color.
  - `nextInvoiceNumber` string, required: The number the next invoice gets when it doesn't name one.

## Other responses

- `400`: - `document_purpose_mismatch` — The document was uploaded with a different `purpose`. - `invalid_request (request shape)` — The body, query, or headers failed validation, or a required header is missing. `details` has one entry per failing location, keyed by JSON pointer or header name.
- `401`: - `unauthorized` — API key authentication is missing or invalid.
- `403`: - `feature_not_enabled` — The feature this request uses is not enabled for the legal entity. Contact Slash support to enable it. - `forbidden` — The credential is not permitted to perform this action on the resource. When the resource is a field of the request, `details` names that `field` and the `id` it received. - `forbidden (legal entity)` — The credential is not permitted to act for the selected legal entity. - `not_available` — Public API v2 is not yet available. Use [Public API v1](https://docs.slash.com/introduction) in the meantime. - `user_api_key_required` — The API key is scoped to a legal entity rather than a user. Every v2 request needs a user API key, created under Settings → API keys in the Slash dashboard, together with the `x-legal-entity` header.
- `404`: - `not_found` — No resource matches the identifier. When the identifier is a field of the request, `details` names that `field` and the `id` it received.
- `429`: The request exceeded the applicable rate limit. The response body is plain text, not the error object; clients must not depend on its wording.
- `500`: - `internal` — Slash could not complete the request. Quote `referenceId` when contacting Slash support.
