# Media · Image · Remove image background

`POST /api/v1/tools/remove-background`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.simplified.com`
- URL: `https://api.simplified.com/api/v1/tools/remove-background`
- Auth: API key in header `Authorization`

Removes the background from an image. Returns a task_id — poll for result.

## Request body

- object
  - `image_url` string, required: URL of the source image.
  - `magic_crop` boolean: Auto-crop to subject bounding box after removal.
  - `background_color` string: Fill color after removal (hex, e.g. "#ffffff"). Omit for transparent.
  - `output_format` 'png' | 'jpeg': Output format. Default png (supports transparency).

## Response `202`

Async task queued.

  - `task_id` string: Poll GET /api/v1/tasks/{task_id} until SUCCESS or FAILURE.
