# Media · Image · Outpaint / extend image beyond borders

`POST /api/v1/tools/image-outpainting`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.simplified.com`
- URL: `https://api.simplified.com/api/v1/tools/image-outpainting`
- Auth: API key in header `Authorization`

Extend an image BEYOND its original borders (uncrop), generating new
surrounding content from `prompt`. Requires `mask_url` marking the new
area. Different from `generativeFill` (fills a region inside the image)
and `magicInpaint` (edits existing content). Async — returns a task_id
(auto-polled).

## Request body

- object
  - `image_url` string, required: URL of the source image.
  - `mask_url` string, required: URL of the mask defining the region to extend into.
  - `prompt` string, required: Text description of what to generate in the extended area.
  - `negative_prompt` string: What to avoid in the generated content.
  - `guidance_scale` number, double: How closely to follow the prompt (higher = more literal).
  - `count` integer: Number of variations to generate.

## Response `202`

Async task queued.

  - `task_id` string: Poll GET /api/v1/tasks/{task_id} until SUCCESS or FAILURE.
