# Create document from template

`POST /template/{template_id}/copy`

This endpoint allows API users to create a new document from a template. If a name is not supplied, the document takes the name of the template.

The new document is a signable copy: the template stays untouched as the master version. The response returns the new document's `id`. The copy has its own document, field, and role IDs, all different from the template's, so read the current roles and fields from [Get document](/docs/document/operations/get-document) for the new document rather than reusing the template's. ## Response `200`

The document was created from the template.

  - `id` string: ID of the created document.
  - `name` string: Name of the created document.

## Other responses

- `400`: * Wrong, expired, or missing token. * The template doesn't exist. * The template belongs to another user.
