# Historical commodity OHLC bars (gzip required)

`GET /v1/hist/commodities/{symbol}/bars`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.sifting.io`
- URL: `https://api.sifting.io/v1/hist/commodities/{symbol}/bars`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`
  - API key in query parameter `api_key`

Requires `Accept-Encoding: gzip`. Covers precious metals
(XAUUSD, XAGUSD, XPTUSD, XPDUSD), energy, and industrials
(e.g. XCUUSD copper, USOUSD WTI, NATGAS). Volume may be 0 for
instruments without a reported tick count. When `start` predates
upstream coverage the API returns `422` with code
`data_unavailable` and an `earliest` field carrying the first
date it can serve.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request parameters.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `404`: Resource not found.
- `406`: This endpoint requires `Accept-Encoding: gzip`.
- `422`: No upstream has data for the requested window.
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded.
