# Rename the app.

`PATCH /apps/{appId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.shorebird.dev/api/v1`
- URL: `https://api.shorebird.dev/api/v1/apps/{appId}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer

Sets the app's display name. Requires the `apps.update` permission.

## Request body

- UpdateAppRequest: The request body for PATCH /apps/{appId}.
  - `name` string, required: The new display name of the app: at least 1 and at most 256 characters.

## Response `204`

The app was renamed.

## Other responses

- `400`: The body could not be parsed (`apps_patch_error`), or `name` is empty or longer than 256 characters (`apps_patch_invalid_display_name`).
- `403`: The caller lacks the `apps.update` permission.
- `404`: The app does not exist (`app_not_found`).
- `default`: Standard error response. Emitted for any non-2xx status where a body can be decoded into an [ErrorResponse].
