# Answer open information requests

`POST /v0/customers/{id}/kyc/rfis/answers`

## Request

Record answers to items on this customer's open information requests. Each answer is a written response, a document already uploaded for this customer, or both. Each answer closes only the item it answers: items left unanswered stay open, and the customer's open requests read as answered once every item has an answer. Answers are reviewed before any profile change is made.

## Request body

- SubmitRfiAnswersRequest: Answers to open information requests.
  - `answers` RfiAnswerInput[], required
    - `answer` string, nullable: The written answer. Optional when `document_id` is given.
    - `document_id` string, uuid, nullable: Id of a document uploaded for this customer that answers the item. Optional when `answer` is given.
    - `item_index` integer, required: `item_index` of the answered item, from the open-requests list.
    - `rfi_id` string, uuid, required: Id of the open request, from the open-requests list.

## Response `200`

Answers recorded.

- SubmitRfiAnswersResponse
  - `recorded` integer, required: Answers recorded. An answer identical to the latest recorded one for the same item is acknowledged without being recorded again.
  - `supplemental_entries` SupplementalEntry[], required: The supplemental entries filed by this call. A document uploaded under a structured kind has already replaced the form's document of that kind and is never filed here. A document uploaded under the catch-all `other` kind is placed during review: it is filed into the profile's `supplemental` section, or moved into the slot it belongs in, by the reviewer. Only when no review will place it is it filed here at once, as a document entry whose `description` is the item it answers.
    - `description` string, nullable
    - `document_id` string, uuid, nullable: The uploaded document this entry attaches (kind `supplemental`). Document entries only.
    - `id` string, uuid, nullable: Stable per-entry id assigned on first persistence. Omitted on create; echo it back to keep the entry stable across saves.
    - `kind` 'text' | 'document', required: Discriminant of a profile's supplemental-information entry: a free-form text note or a document attachment.
    - `title` string, nullable

## Other responses

- `400`: Empty batch, an answer with neither text nor a document, blank or oversized text, or an unknown item.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `404`: Customer, request, or document not found.
- `409`: The request is no longer open.
