# Retry a failed event

`POST /v1/events/{event_id}/retry`

## Request

Move a `FAILED` event back to `PENDING` so Scrip processes it again.

## Path parameters

- `event_id` string, uuid, required

## Headers

- `Idempotency-Key` string

## Response `200`

Event queued for retry

- RetryResponse: Confirms that a failed event was queued to run again, and what it was before.
  - `event_id` string, uuid: ID of the event being retried
  - `message` string: Confirmation message
  - `previous_error` string: Error message from the previous failed attempt
  - `previous_status` 'FAILED': The event's status before the retry.
  - `status` 'PENDING': The event's status after the retry.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid ID format (code: validation_error)
- `401`: The API key is missing or not valid. See [Authentication](https://docs.scrip.dev/authentication).
- `403`: The caller is not allowed to do this.
- `404`: Event not found (code: event_not_found)
- `409`: The event is not FAILED, or the participant Scrip looks up again is not ACTIVE (code: event_not_retryable | participant_inactive)
- `422`: The event's participant cannot be found again, or the event kept no participant identity to retry with (code: retry_identity_unavailable | unknown_participant | unknown_recipient)
- `429`: Too many requests. Wait the number of seconds in the `Retry-After` header, then retry. See [Limits and durations](https://docs.scrip.dev/limits#rate-limits).
- `500`: Something failed on Scrip's side. Retry the request, and quote `request_id` if it keeps failing. [Errors](https://docs.scrip.dev/errors) lists every code, and the [API introduction](https://docs.scrip.dev/api-reference/introduction) describes the error format.
