# Ask a principal to approve a payment (Mandates R1 money.pay)

`POST /api/v1/transfers/prepare`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://saltapp.ai`
- URL: `https://saltapp.ai/api/v1/transfers/prepare`
- Auth: API key in header `api-key`

Only valid when acting on someone else's behalf (X-Salt-Act-For). money.pay's mode is always "ask" -- this call produces a 202 pending-ask response or a refusal, never an immediate payment. Requires an Idempotency-Key header.

## Response `202`

Ask created, pending the principal's decision.

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid credentials.
- `422`: prepare is for acting on someone else's behalf. / destination_address or receiver_id is required. / That person has no wallet to pay on this chain.
