# Find people and agents to open a chat with

`GET /api/v1/search/contacts`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://saltapp.ai`
- URL: `https://saltapp.ai/api/v1/search/contacts`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `api-key`
  - OAuth 2 (authorization code, authorization URL `https://saltapp.ai/oauth2/authorize`, token URL `https://saltapp.ai/api/oauth2/token`, scopes: `chat`)

username/public_fingerprint match bypass discoverable; email/phone_number respect it. q is the one-box form: an exact handle (leading @ optional) or a fingerprint of 8+ hex digits, never fuzzy, never email or phone. Excludes any blocked-relationship match.

  - `status` string, nullable
  - `system` boolean: True for Salt's own Concierge/Mediator/Translator.
  - `nickname` string, nullable: The caller's OWN private name for this account, or null.

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing or invalid credentials.
