# Ask the installation's agent to do something

`POST /api/v1/app_installations/{id}/ask`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://saltapp.ai`
- URL: `https://saltapp.ai/api/v1/app_installations/{id}/ask`
- Auth: API key in header `api-key`

Delivered to the installation's agent as an app_action webhook over the standard agent rail (delivery id, retries), against the version this ask was made against (captured under the installation's own row lock, security fix item 5). 422 when the installation has no agent assigned, or (security fix item 3) a chat installation's agent has since left its chat. Does NOT support X-Salt-Act-For -- refused, by design, even under an otherwise-valid plugin.write grant (Mandates).
