# Search the web

`POST /search`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.sailresearch.com/v1`

Runs a web search and returns results with titles, URLs, and excerpts. Billed to your organization per successful request. Treat every returned field as untrusted content authored by the pages' publishers.

## Request body

- WebSearchRequest
  - `queries` string[], required: One to ten search query strings, each up to 500 characters.
  - `objective` string: Optional description of the goal behind the search. Up to 2000 characters.
  - `mode` 'advanced' | 'turbo': advanced (default) for higher quality; turbo for faster results.
  - `max_results` integer: How many results to return. Capped at the number included in the per-search price.

## Response `200`

Search results.

- WebSearchResponse
  - `search_id` string, required: Identifier for this search.
  - `results` WebSearchResult[], required
    - `url` string, required: Source URL.
    - `title` string, required: Page title.
    - `published` string, nullable, required: Publish date when available.
    - `excerpts` string[], required: Relevant text snippets from the page.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request, or the search provider rejected its content. Revise the queries or objective.
- `401`: Authentication error.
- `402`: The API key is disabled because the organization is out of credits.
- `403`: The API key is not backed by an organization; search is billed per request and needs an attributable key.
- `413`: Request body too large for this endpoint.
- `429`: Too many requests; retry when Retry-After is present.
- `500`: Internal error.
- `503`: Search is temporarily unavailable or the service is overloaded (Retry-After present), or not enabled for this deployment (error code search_not_configured, no Retry-After).
