# Generate User Thumbnail

`GET /cloud/v2/users/{user_id}:generateThumbnail#OpenCloudUsers`

Generates and returns the URL for the user's avatar thumbnail.
            
This is a long-running operation: the response is an `Operation` object.
Poll the operation using its returned `path` until `done` is `true`, at
which point `response.imageUri` contains the thumbnail URL. See
[Get User Thumbnail Generation Operation](https://create.roblox.com/docs/cloud/reference/features/users#Cloud_GetUserThumbnailGenerationOperation).

- `format` 'FORMAT_UNSPECIFIED' | 'PNG' | 'JPEG' — Define the format of the thumbnail.
- `shape` 'SHAPE_UNSPECIFIED' | 'ROUND' | 'SQUARE' — Define the shape of the thumbnail.

## Response `200`

Success

- OpenCloudUsersOperation — This resource represents a long-running operation that is the result of a network API call.
  - `path` string, nullable — The server-assigned path, which is only unique within the same service that originally returns it. If you use the default HTTP mapping, the `path` should be a resource path ending with `operations/{unique_id}`.
  - `metadata` OpenCloudUsersGenerateUserThumbnailMetadata — Represents metadata about the long-running operation corresponding to a GenerateUserThumbnail request. This is the type of the `Operation.metadata` field in the response to `GetOperation` requests for GenerateUserThumbnail operations.
  - `done` boolean — If the value is `false`, it means the operation is still in progress. If `true`, the operation is completed, and either `error` or `response` is available.
  - `error` OpenCloudUsersStatus — The `Status` type defines a logical error model that is suitable for different programming environments, including REST APIs and RPC APIs. It is used by [gRPC](https://github.com/grpc). Each `Status` message contains three pieces of data: error code, error message, and error details. You can find out more about this error model and how to work with it in the [API Design Guide](https://cloud.google.com/apis/design/errors).
    - `code` integer — The status code, which should be an enum value of [google.rpc.Code][google.rpc.Code].
    - `message` string, nullable — A developer-facing error message, which should be in English. Any user-facing error message should be localized and sent in the [google.rpc.Status.details][google.rpc.Status.details] field, or localized by the client.
    - `details` unknown[], nullable — A list of messages that carry the error details. There is a common set of message types for APIs to use.

  - `response` OpenCloudUsersGenerateUserThumbnailResponse — Returns the URL for the user's avatar thumbnail.
    - `@type` string, nullable — The fully-qualified type of the packed operation response. Mirrors the `@type` field the legacy transcoder emitted via `Any.Pack`, kept so clients reading `response["@type"]` continue to work. Declared first so it serializes before the payload fields.
    - `imageUri` string, nullable — URI for the generated thumbnail.
