# Forward geocode.

`GET /search/geocode/v1/forward`

## Request

Turn a place name or address into coordinates. Returns a GeoJSON FeatureCollection ranked by relevance.

**Quota cost:** 1 unit per call.

- `bbox` string

## Response `200`

Forward-geocode results.

- PlaceFeatureCollection: Standard GeoJSON FeatureCollection, ranked by relevance.
  - `features` PlaceFeature[], required
    - `geometry` PointGeometry, required
      - `coordinates` number[], required: `[lon, lat]`.
      - `type` string, required: Fixed string `"Point"`.
    - `properties` PlaceProperties, required: Geographic metadata for a place. Optional fields are omitted when the underlying record doesn't carry them — e.g. a country-level result has no `street`.
      - `city` string, nullable
      - `country` string, nullable
      - `countrycode` string, nullable: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
      - `name` string, nullable: Display name of the place.
      - `postcode` string, nullable
      - `state` string, nullable
      - `street` string, nullable
      - `type` string, nullable: What kind of place this is — `street`, `house`, `locality`, `city`, `district`, `region`, `country`, etc.
    - `type` string, required: Fixed string `"Feature"`.
  - `type` string, required

## Other responses

- `400`: Query parameters failed validation.
- `401`: Missing, malformed, or revoked API key.
- `429`: Monthly quota exhausted (hard-cap plans only).
