# Update a department

`PATCH /departments/{department_id}`

Update the name of a specific department.

- `department_id` string, uuid, required

## Request body

  - `name` string, required: The new name for the department.

## Response `204`

Department was updated.

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request Returned when the request body is invalid. For example, when the `name` field is missing or exceeds 100 characters.
- `401`: Unauthorized – authentication credentials are missing or invalid Returned when the request was not fulfilled because authentication has failed or has not been provided.
- `403`: Action forbidden - insufficient permissions to perform this action Returned, for example, when you don't have permissions necessary to perform this action.
- `404`: Not found Returned when the department that you're trying to update doesn't exist.
- `409`: Conflict Returned when a department with the given name already exists.
- `default`: Unexpected error
