# Delete a department

`DELETE /departments/{department_id}`

Delete a specific department from your business.

:::note
Deleting a department does not delete the team members assigned to it.
The department assignment is simply removed from the team members.

## Path parameters

- `department_id` string, uuid, required

## Response `204`

Department was deleted.

## Other responses

- `401`: Unauthorized – authentication credentials are missing or invalid Returned when the request was not fulfilled because authentication has failed or has not been provided.
- `403`: Action forbidden - insufficient permissions to perform this action Returned, for example, when you don't have permissions necessary to perform this action.
- `404`: Not found Returned when the department that you're trying to delete doesn't exist.
- `default`: Unexpected error
