# Send an SMS to a contact

`POST /v1/messages`

## Request

> **Deprecated.**

Sends an outbound SMS to the given number from your organization's default sending number, creating the contact if it does not exist. Superseded by POST /v1/sms/send, which lets you pick the sending number explicitly.
