# Add a custom status to a project.

`POST /projects/{id}/statuses`

## Request

Appends a stage to the project's board (position = last + 1). `category` defaults to `in_progress`. At most 15 statuses per project (409 `status_limit_reached`). When the project follows a non-empty team or workspace palette (`inherited_from` of the list), the write is refused with 409 `inherited_palette`. With nothing to follow (no palette above, or an empty one) the status is created and the project is on its own palette from then on. The caller must be a manager of the project: on a team project an accepted owner or admin of its team; on a project outside any team, the person it belongs to (403 `forbidden` otherwise). 404 when the project is not visible to the caller.   - `color` string, required: Hex color for the column, e.g. "#8B5CF6".
  - `category` 'todo' | 'in_progress' | 'completed': Defaults to 'in_progress' when omitted — most custom stages refine the active phase.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request shape.
- `401`: Missing or invalid access token.
- `403`: Token lacks the required scope.
- `404`: No such project visible to the caller.
- `409`: The project already has 15 statuses (`status_limit_reached`), or it follows a team or workspace palette (`inherited_palette`).
- `422`: Request body failed schema validation.
- `429`: Rate-limit exceeded for this tier.
