# Delete a custom status (hard delete).

`DELETE /project-statuses/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://restivity.ai/api/v1`
- URL: `https://restivity.ai/api/v1/project-statuses/{id}`
- Auth: OAuth 2 (authorization code, authorization URL `https://restivity.ai/oauth/authorize`, token URL `https://restivity.ai/api/oauth/token`, scopes: `projects:write`)

Removes the stage. Tasks in it are moved to `replacement_status_id` (a status OF THE SAME PROJECT AND OF THE SAME CATEGORY, so their base `status` does not change; another category is refused with 400 and `reason: replacement_other_category`), or with `to_base=true` to the category's base column when the project has no other status of that category. A target is required only while tasks are in the status — 409 `replacement_required` names how many, in how many projects (`usage`) — and may be omitted for an unused status. Not recoverable. A status of a team or workspace palette is refused with 409 `inherited_palette`. The caller must be a manager of the project: on a team project an accepted owner or admin of its team; on a project outside any team, the person it belongs to (403 `forbidden` otherwise). 404 when the project is not visible to the caller. MCP sibling: `projects_statuses_delete` (same answer).

## Path parameters

- `id` string, uuid, required

## Query parameters

- `replacement_status_id` string, uuid
- `to_base` boolean

## Response `200`

Deleted: the id and where its tasks went.

- DeleteProjectStatusResult
  - `id` string, uuid, required
  - `deleted` true, required
  - `migrated_tasks` integer, required: How many tasks were moved out of the deleted status — the RES-102 name of `tasks_moved`, kept with the same value.
  - `tasks_moved` integer, required: Tasks that were in the status and moved (to the replacement, or the base column).
  - `projects_affected` integer, required: Projects those tasks are in.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request shape.
- `401`: Missing or invalid access token.
- `403`: Token lacks the required scope.
- `404`: No such status visible to the caller (a malformed id included).
- `409`: Tasks are still pinned to the status and no target was given (`replacement_required`, with `usage: {tasks, projects}`), or the status belongs to a team or workspace palette (`inherited_palette`). Transient, nothing written — send the same request again: `deadlock` (moving the tasks met a task write holding one of them) or `status_palette_busy`.
- `422`: Request body failed schema validation.
- `429`: Rate-limit exceeded for this tier.
