# Publish a story

`POST /v1/stories/{storyId}/publish`

## Request

With Idempotency-Key, atomically save a durable publish request and return its acceptance. The same key and settings return the original acceptance; changed settings return 409. Poll getStory for platform results. Accepted does not mean posted. Without the header, retain the legacy dispatch behavior. Dispatch a Story for immediate publishing to Instagram, Facebook, and/or TikTok. Returns 202 — the publish job runs in the background. Poll GET /v1/stories/{storyId} for final status.

- `Idempotency-Key` string: Use one key per approved publish. Repeat the same key and settings after a lost response; never make a new key for an uncertain result.

## Other responses

- `409`: Conflicting key settings, changed content, or an active/uncertain publish.
- `503`: Publish acceptance could not be confirmed. Repeat the same key and settings; do not resend with a new key.
