# Show typing indicator (Facebook & Instagram)

`POST /api/chats/{id}/start_typing`

## Request

Shows a typing indicator in the participant's thread — the "..." bubble they see while a reply is being composed. Facebook Messenger and Instagram Direct only; other networks return 422. Asynchronous: eligibility is validated up front and the action is delivered to Meta in the background. Meta clears the indicator after about 20 seconds or as soon as a message is sent, and it only renders while the participant is inside the messaging window.

Typing action accepted for asynchronous delivery.

- `401`: Invalid, missing, or insufficient API key permissions.
