# Create API key

`POST /api/keys`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://plith.ai`
- URL: `https://plith.ai/api/keys`
- Auth: none required

Creates a new org and API key pair. Both fields are optional. The raw key is returned once and never stored in plaintext. Rate limited: 3 keys per IP per 24 hours.

## Request body

- object
  - `email` string, email: Optional. Stored for reference. Must be unique across orgs.
  - `name` string: Optional. Human-readable org name. Defaults to email if omitted.

## Response `201`

API key created — store it securely, shown only once

- object
  - `org_id` string, uuid: Unique identifier for the created org.
  - `key` string: Full API key — shown once, never stored in plaintext.
  - `prefix` string: First 12 characters of the key, stored for display/identification.
  - `message` string
  - `docs` string, uri

## Other responses

- `409`: An org with this email already exists
- `429`: Rate limited
- `500`: Internal server error
