# Associate Items to a User

`POST /user/items/associate`

Associates Items with a `user_id`. If an Item is already associated with a different `user_id`, calling this endpoint will disassociate it from that User and reassociate it with the target User instead. A single request can associate up to 100 Items.

## Request body

- UserItemsAssociateRequest — UserItemsAssociateRequest defines the request schema for `/user/items/associate`
  - `client_id` string — Your Plaid API `client_id`. The `client_id` is required and may be provided either in the `PLAID-CLIENT-ID` header or as part of a request body.
  - `secret` string — Your Plaid API `secret`. The `secret` is required and may be provided either in the `PLAID-SECRET` header or as part of a request body.
  - `user_id` string, required — A unique user identifier, created by `/user/create`. Integrations that began using `/user/create` after December 10, 2025 use this field to identify a user instead of the `user_token`. For more details, see [New User APIs](https://plaid.com/docs/api/users/user-apis).
  - `item_ids` ItemId[], required — An array of `item_id`s to be associated with the `user_id`.

OK

- UserItemsAssociateResponse — UserItemsAssociateResponse defines the response schema for `/user/items/associate`
  - `request_id` string, required — A unique identifier for the request, which can be used for troubleshooting. This identifier, like all Plaid identifiers, is case sensitive.
