# Change your display name (dashboard session only)

`PATCH /v1/customers/me`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.placementapi.com`

Sets the display name and nothing else: one column, so credits, keys, orders and Stripe identity cannot move with it. NOT available to API keys (403 `dashboard_only`); requires a live browser session and a same-origin `Origin` header or the write is refused (403 `forbidden`). The name is trimmed; 1-80 characters after trimming.

  - `name` string, required: Trimmed before the 80-character bound is applied, so stray leading or trailing space is not counted.

## Other responses

- `400`: Malformed request. `error` is `bad_request` (with a zod `detail`), `invalid_json`, or `unknown_parameter` / `unknown_field` (with `unknown[]` and `accepted[]`).
- `401`: Missing, malformed or revoked Bearer credential: `{ error: "unauthorized" }`.
- `403`: `dashboard_only` for an API key; `forbidden` for a cross-origin request.
- `404`: `not_found`.
- `503`: `server_misconfigured` when the store is not configured; `upstream_unfunded` when the measurement provider's prepaid balance is exhausted (fresh profiles, gap maps and SERPs pause; cached results and catalogue are unaffected); `upstream_unavailable` on a provider error; `payments_unavailable` when card payments are not configured.
