# Start a verified email change (dashboard session only)

`POST /v1/customers/me/email`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.placementapi.com`
- URL: `https://api.placementapi.com/v1/customers/me/email`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Session only and cross-origin protected. Checks the requested address against this account's current address and against every other account, rate-limits per account (3 an hour), then emails a single-use, 30-minute confirmation link to the NEW inbox. Nothing on the account changes yet. NOT available to API keys (403 `dashboard_only`): a key that could redirect the account's mail would be an identity, not a program.

## Other responses

- `400`: Malformed request. `error` is `bad_request` (with a zod `detail`), `invalid_json`, or `unknown_parameter` / `unknown_field` (with `unknown[]` and `accepted[]`).
- `401`: Missing, malformed or revoked Bearer credential: `{ error: "unauthorized" }`.
- `403`: `dashboard_only` for an API key; `forbidden` for a cross-origin request.
- `404`: `not_found`.
- `409`: `email_unchanged` when that is already this account's address; `email_taken` when another account holds it.
- `429`: `rate_limited`: up to 3 email-change requests per account an hour.
- `502`: `email_send_failed`: the confirmation mail could not be sent, so nothing changed.
- `503`: `server_misconfigured` when the store is not configured; `upstream_unfunded` when the measurement provider's prepaid balance is exhausted (fresh profiles, gap maps and SERPs pause; cached results and catalogue are unaffected); `upstream_unavailable` on a provider error; `payments_unavailable` when card payments are not configured.
