# Create hierarchy

`POST /corporate/v1/hierarchies`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://sandbox.pismolabs.io`
- URL: `https://sandbox.pismolabs.io/corporate/v1/hierarchies`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Creates a hierarchy. This can be used generically, but it's typically used to create business hierarchies along territorial lines: headquarters > countries > regions > branches, and so on.

This endpoint generates a [Corporate hierarchy created](https://developers.pismo.io/events/docs/corporate-hierarchy-creation-1) event. See the [Data and reporting](doc:data-reporting-overview) guide for more information on events and setting up event notifications.

## Request body

- CreateHierarchiesRequest: Create hierarchy payload request object
  - `name` string, required: Hierarchy name
  - `levels` object[], required: Levels and their descriptions and indexes. (Indexes must be sequential.)
    - `index` integer, required: Hierarchy level index
    - `name` string: Hierarchy level name
    - `description` string: Hierarchy level description

## Response `201`

Created

- CreateHierarchiesResponse: Create hierarchy response object
  - `id` string, uuid, required: Hierarchy ID generated internally
  - `levels` object[], required
    - `id` string, required: Level ID generated internally
    - `index` integer, required: Hierarchy level index
    - `name` string, required: Hierarchy level name
    - `description` string: Hierarchy level description
  - `name` string: Hierarchy One

## Other responses

- `400`: A Bad Request validation error
- `401`: Access token is missing or invalid
- `403`: The request has been lost
- `500`: Internal Server Error
