# Remove your own MFA enrollment.

`POST /api/users/me/mfa/remove`

## Request

- Base URL: `/` (relative, and the document was published on a file host, not at the API’s origin)
- URL: `/api/users/me/mfa/remove`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Removes the calling key's own user's MFA, which takes a valid code so a stolen session key cannot turn MFA off. A bad code counts toward the lock. A user who has lost the device asks an administrator, who uses DELETE /api/users/{username}/mfa. Requires the scope but not an administrator. Recorded as a user_mfa_removed audit event. Requires the `users:write` scope.

MFA was removed.

## Other responses

- `400`: The code is missing.
- `401`: The Authorization header is absent or the API key is not recognized.
- `403`: The key does not hold users:write, the code is not valid, or the user's MFA is locked.
- `404`: Not Found
- `406`: No representation matches Accept.
- `409`: The user is not enrolled.
- `413`: Content Too Large
- `415`: Unsupported Media Type
- `500`: Internal Server Error
- `503`: Service Unavailable
