# Create an Epic phase

`POST /epics/{epicId}/phases`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://app.pencil.ink/api/v1`
- URL: `https://app.pencil.ink/api/v1/epics/{epicId}/phases`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Appends a phase to the Epic. Requires a `write` key.

## Request body

- PhaseCreate
  - `name` string, required
  - `description` string
  - `gateMode` 'advisory' | 'strict'
  - `targetDate` integer: Epoch ms.
  - `docUrl` string, uri
  - `ownerId` string

## Other responses

- `201` (unresolved $ref)
- `400`: Malformed request or invalid field (`validation_error`).
- `403`: The key is read-only and may not write (`forbidden`).
- `404`: Resource not found in this org (`not_found`).
