# Log in or create an account with email and password

`POST /auth/continue/email`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.peelaway.io`

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Signs in existing accounts; creates a new unverified account only when the email is new. Existing-account password errors never trigger signup. Sets a session cookie on success. Browser origins, credential validation, and throttling follow the underlying authentication endpoints.

## Request body

  - `email` string, email, required
  - `password` string, required
  - `callbackURL` string: Trusted return URL for signup email verification.
  - `oauth_query` string: Signed OAuth authorization query to resume.

## Response `200`

Session created. JSON contains user, token, and authMode (signin or signup).

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid email, password, or request body.
- `401`: Invalid credentials.
- `403`: Untrusted origin or callback, or verification required.
- `415`: JSON content type required.
- `429`: Too many authentication attempts.
