# Quote one described tool

`POST /credits/tools/estimate`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.paywithlocus.com/api`
- URL: `https://api.paywithlocus.com/api/credits/tools/estimate`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP bearer

Prices the intended request without dispatching it or burning credits. Variable-price and live external-rail tools may return an executable approval token or request a hard maximum before execution.

## Headers

- `X-Locus-Session-Id` string
- `X-Locus-End-User` string: Case-sensitive immutable ID in the tenant namespace. Prefer an identity-provider subject, not an email address.

  - `max_charge_credits` string: Non-negative exact decimal string with at most six fractional digits. Endpoint-specific positivity and amount limits still apply.
  - `preflight_external_quote` boolean
  - `idempotency_key` string

## Response `200`

No-dispatch price estimate or executable quote

  - `success` unknown, required
  - `estimate` object, required

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid endpoint arguments or quote controls
- `401`: Missing or invalid discovery credential
- `403`: Tool is disabled or denied for this principal
- `404`: Tool is not visible to this principal
- `500`: Tool estimate failed
