# Get a transcript excerpt around a moment

`GET /v1/podcasts/episodes/{id}/transcript/preview`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.particle.pro`
- URL: `https://api.particle.pro/v1/podcasts/episodes/{id}/transcript/preview`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`
  - HTTP bearer

Returns one segment of an episode's transcript: the latest segment starting at or before `at` (seconds), or the opening segment when `at` is omitted. A moment falling between two segments resolves to the earlier one, and a moment outside the episode clamps to the first or last segment, so the returned range does not always contain `at` — `segment_start_seconds` and `segment_end_seconds` report what was actually returned. Every caller gets the same excerpt for a given moment regardless of plan, so unlike the full transcript this response is cacheable and safe to render for signed-out visitors. Use this to open a deep link on a moment; use get-episode-transcript for the whole episode.

## Path parameters

- `id` string, required: Episode slug or ID

## Query parameters

- `at` number, double: A moment in the episode, in seconds. Returns the latest segment starting at or before it, which is not always a segment containing it: a value falling in the gap between two segments resolves to the earlier one, and a value outside the episode clamps to the first or last segment. Read segment_start_seconds/segment_end_seconds for the range actually returned. Omit for the opening segment.
- `format` 'dialogue' | 'text' | 'srt': Output format: dialogue (speaker-attributed lines), text (plain text), srt (SubRip subtitles)

## Response `200`

OK

- unknown

## Other responses

- `402`: Payment Required. Read error_code. payment_required is the x402 path: either a keyless request being challenged — pay $0.01 in USDC per request (requirements in the PAYMENT-REQUIRED header) or send a pp_ API key — or a supplied payment that failed settlement (details in the PAYMENT-RESPONSE header; retry the same signature before signing a new one). See https://docs.particle.pro/x402. Any other code means the credential was accepted but does not cover this request (a plan or session gate such as premium_required or paid_plan_confirmation_required); its resolve says how to obtain access, and no payment header is sent.
- `default`: Error
