# Look up DNS records

`POST /tools/dns-lookup`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.palisade.email`
- URL: `https://api.palisade.email/tools/dns-lookup`
- Auth: one of:
  - none
  - HTTP bearer
  - HTTP basic

Read a host's TXT, MX, NS, A and CNAME records from live DNS in one call. Record types that resolve to nothing are simply absent from the array rather than reported as an error. Authentication is optional.

  - `host` string, required: The host to resolve.

## Response `200`

Success

  - `records` object[], required
    - `type` 'TXT' | 'MX' | 'NS' | 'A' | 'CNAME', required
    - `value` string, required
    - `priority` number: MX preference. Only present on MX records.
