# Look Suggest

`GET /api/look-suggest`

Lightweight autocomplete for the observatory search input.

Returns up to `limit` suggestions across three buckets:
  - tickers (4 max)  — symbol + company name from PG company_profiles
  - learn   (2 max)  — learning-path titles
  - feature (2 max)  — known surfaces (Markets, Bonds, Glossary, ...)

Prefix-match against in-memory caches; sub-millisecond latency. No
rate limiting (the dashboard cmd-K palette has its own search at
/api/search; this is the welcome-observatory's lighter cousin).

Successful Response

- LookSuggestResponse: `/api/look-suggest` — observatory search autocomplete. F4 boundary backfill 2026-05-08 (Initiative 6). Cap is 12 results total; per-bucket caps are 4 / 2 / 2.
  - `results` LookSuggestItem[], required: Up to 12 suggestions across tickers + learn-paths + feature-pages, prefix-matches first then substring. Empty list when query is empty or below 1 char.
    - `label` string, required: Display text (e.g. 'AAPL — Apple Inc.', 'Stocks 101 (Beginner)', 'Markets').
    - `url` string, required: Destination URL (relative path). Frontend uses `<a href>`.
    - `kind` string, required: Bucket discriminator: one of 'ticker', 'learn', 'feature'. Drives the icon column in the suggest dropdown.
