# Stop a computer

`POST /api/computers/{id}/stop`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.orgo.ai`
- URL: `https://www.orgo.ai/api/computers/{id}/stop`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Stops a running computer; its disk is kept (a stopped computer bills storage only). By default the answer waits until it is stopped (up to 5 minutes). Send {"async": true}, ?async=true or Prefer: respond-async to get 202 at once with an operation to poll at poll_url. A Stop already under way is joined, never repeated. Stop takes no end.

## Path parameters

- `id` string, required

## Request body

- object
  - `async` boolean

## Response `200`

Stopped: the operation’s result ({ success: true, ... }).

## Other responses

- `202`: Under way: id, status stopping, operation_id, operation and poll_url (also in Location; Retry-After 2).
- `400`: Not a JSON object, an async that is not a boolean, an end (INVALID_ENDS), or a computer this OS cannot stop (its code says why).
- `402`: TRIAL_ARCHIVE_UNAVAILABLE: a trial computer is kept by choosing a plan.
- `403`: View only access (workspace_read_only).
- `409`: The computer cannot stop now (its code says why; suspend_in_progress while its memory is being saved).
- `429`: Over one of the account's rate limits (rate_limited): `limit` names it, `retry_after` and Retry-After say how many seconds to wait. Limits are per account (the workspace owner when the request acts on a computer or a workspace) and set by its plan (x-rate-limits).
