# Resize a running computer

`PATCH /api/computers/{id}/resize`

## Request

size (medium, large, xl) sets vCPU and memory together; or send vcpus, mem_gb and disk_size_gb (grow only) on their own. Past the account’s room the 403 names what is short and its monthly_usd, and for the owner signed in or with an account-wide key, next: the capacity dry run, the purchase (POST /api/account/capacity { addon }, with an Idempotency-Key) and the resize again. Room is a monthly charge to the plan.

## Response `200`

Applied: vcpus, mem_gb, disk_size_gb as the computer has them now.

## Other responses

- `207`: Some changes applied (results says which).
- `400`: INVALID_SIZE, a value not offered, or DISK_QUOTA_EXCEEDED (past the account’s storage: short, monthly_usd, next as below).
- `403`: RAM_ADDON or VCPU_ADDON: the plan’s pool has no room. short { vcpu, ram_gb, disk_gb }, monthly_usd, can_add_room, and next (the calls that finish it) when the caller can buy it. CONTACT_US_FOR_SIZE past XL. A deal’s own limit is PLAN_LIMIT.
- `409`: COMPUTER_NOT_RUNNING (next: the start call), COMPUTE_HARDWARE_PINNED (billing fixes its size), RESIZE_IN_PROGRESS.
- `429`: Over one of the account's rate limits (rate_limited): `limit` names it, `retry_after` and Retry-After say how many seconds to wait. Limits are per account (the workspace owner when the request acts on a computer or a workspace) and set by its plan (x-rate-limits).
