# Update dictionary word

`PATCH /dictionary/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.openwhispr.com/api/v1`
- URL: `https://api.openwhispr.com/api/v1/dictionary/{id}`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Change an entry's spelling. Requires dictionary:write on a personal key (owk_live_). Returns 403 forbidden for managed users whose organization has turned off cloud backup.

## Path parameters

- `id` string, required

## Request body

- DictionaryUpdateRequest
  - `word` string, required: New spelling for the entry.

## Response `200`

Updated entry.

    - `source` 'manual' | 'learned': `manual` for words you added; `learned` for words added automatically by auto-learn from corrections.

## Other responses

- `400`: Validation error.
- `403`: Missing dictionary:write, a workspace key, or cloud backup turned off by your organization.
- `404`: Entry not found.
- `409`: Another entry already has that spelling.
