# Retrieve a ChatKit thread

`GET /chatkit/threads/{thread_id}`

Retrieve a ChatKit thread by its identifier.

## Path parameters

- `thread_id` string, required

## Response `200`

Success

- ThreadResource: Represents a ChatKit thread and its current status.
  - `id` string, required: Identifier of the thread.
  - `object` 'chatkit.thread', required: Type discriminator that is always `chatkit.thread`.
  - `created_at` integer, required: Unix timestamp (in seconds) for when the thread was created.
  - `title` string, nullable, required: Optional human-readable title for the thread. Defaults to null when no title has been generated.
  - `status` union, required: Current status for the thread. Defaults to `active` for newly created threads.
    - ActiveStatus: Indicates that a thread is active.
      - `type` 'active', required: Status discriminator that is always `active`.
    - LockedStatus: Indicates that a thread is locked and cannot accept new input.
      - `type` 'locked', required: Status discriminator that is always `locked`.
      - `reason` string, nullable, required: Reason that the thread was locked. Defaults to null when no reason is recorded.
    - ClosedStatus: Indicates that a thread has been closed.
      - `type` 'closed', required: Status discriminator that is always `closed`.
      - `reason` string, nullable, required: Reason that the thread was closed. Defaults to null when no reason is recorded.
  - `user` string, required: Free-form string that identifies your end user who owns the thread.

## Other responses

- `400`: The request is invalid or the required ChatKit beta header is missing or invalid.
- `404`: The thread was not found or is not accessible.
- `429`: The request rate limit has been exceeded.
