# Set a member's invocation mode for a skill

`PUT /api/v1/skills/{skillId}/invocation-mode`

**Experimental.** This resource is still gaining fields and may change without a version bump.

Sets the member's own invocation mode for a skill. It changes how that member's agent treats the skill and nothing else: other members keep their own mode. Any member who can view the skill can set theirs.

## Path parameters

- `skillId` string, uuid, required: Skill UUID

## Query parameters

- `userId` string, uuid: Target user ID (for org-scoped API keys)

## Request body

- SkillInvocationModeBody
  - `invocationMode` 'auto' | 'manual' | 'off', required: When the member's agent may use the skill. `auto`: the agent may use the skill on its own, whenever a request fits. `manual`: only when the member asks for the skill by name or /identifier. `off`: the agent never runs it, and the chat menus leave it out. Turning a skill off doesn't change who can edit or delete it.

## Response `200`

The mode now stored for the member

  - `skillId` string, uuid, required: ID of the skill

## Other responses

- `400`: Malformed `skillId`, an invalid body, or a skill that cannot store a setting
- `403`: Invocation settings or skills are not enabled for the caller, or the caller cannot view the skill
- `404`: No live skill with this id in the organization, or `userId` names no member of it
- `405`: Method not allowed
