# Update custom color palette

`PUT /v1/color-palettes/{colorPaletteId}`

Update a custom chart color palette. Omitted fields keep their current values. Charts using the palette use up the new colors immediately.

## Path parameters

- `colorPaletteId` string, uuid, required

## Request body

- ColorPaletteObject
  - `colors` string[]: Ordered hex colors. Discrete palettes are used in order; continuous palettes interpolate between them.
  - `id` string, uuid: Palette ID. Visualizations reference the palette by this value.
  - `created_at` string, date-time: When the palette was created
  - `name` string: Palette name, unique per type within the organization
  - `type` 'discrete' | 'continuous': - `discrete` palettes color categories - `continuous` palettes define a gradient for numeric scales
  - `updated_at` string, date-time: When the palette was last updated

Color palette updated

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad Request. The request body or the `id` parameter failed validation. Possible error messages: - `Bad Request: id: Invalid UUID` - `colors: Too small: expected array to have >=1 items` - `type: Invalid option: expected one of "discrete"|"continuous"`
- `401`: Authentication required
- `403`: Forbidden. Requires Organization Admin permissions.
- `404`: Not Found. No color palette with that ID exists in the caller's organization.
- `405`: Method Not Allowed - Invalid HTTP method for this endpoint
- `409`: Conflict. Another palette already uses this name and type, or the palette is the organization's default and its type cannot be changed.
- `429`: Too Many Requests - Rate limit exceeded (60 requests/minute)
