# Create a quote

`POST /v1/quotes`

## Request

Creates a new quote owned by the authenticated user's
company. Server-managed fields (`id`, `company_id`,
`created_by`, `seq_number`, `status`, all timestamps,
totals) are filled in automatically. Status starts as
`waiting`. Line items are not accepted at creation time.

Foreign-key references in the body (`customer_id`, `vehicle_id`,
`work_category_id`) must resolve to resources owned by the
authenticated user's company. Unreachable refs return 422
`parameter_invalid` pointing at the offending field.

## Request body

- QuoteCreateRequest: Body of `POST /v1/quotes`. Server-managed columns (id, company_id, created_by, seq_number, status, all timestamps, totals) are filled in automatically. Line items are not accepted on creation.
  - `customer_id` string, required
  - `vehicle_id` string, nullable
  - `title` string, nullable
  - `comments` string, nullable
  - `internal_comments` string, nullable
  - `work_category_id` string, nullable: Single-category form, accepted in every revision: the document's only category. To set several, send `work_category_ids` instead (not both).
  - `work_category_ids` string[]: The document's work categories, in the order chosen (`work_category_id` in responses reports the first). Trimmed and de-duplicated (first occurrence wins); at most 10, each one of the company's categories (`GET /v1/work-categories`) — an unknown id is reported on `/work_category_ids/{i}`. Do not send together with `work_category_id`: both → `422 parameter_invalid`. Available since revision 2026-10-03.
  - `km` number, nullable

Quote created.

- Quote: A customer-facing job estimate. Lifecycle: `waiting` → `accepted` / `rejected`. Totals are server-computed from the embedded line items and are read-only on the wire.

## Other responses

- `400`: Request body is unparseable or X-API-Version is missing.
- `401`: Missing, malformed, expired, or wrong-audience bearer token.
- `402`: The company has no active subscription, or its plan does not include API access. API access is included in the Business and Illimitato plans.
- `403`: The authenticated user lacks the required permission.
- `415`: Content-Type is not `application/json`, or Accept rejects JSON.
- `422`: A request field is missing or invalid (fast-fail).
- `500`: Unhandled server error. Detail is logged, not exposed.
